Beauty From the Grocery Store

There's no need to buy high priced beauty aids for your skin and your hair when you can get it all from your local grocery store. You can save money, space and time by using the same things you buy for food as beauty aids for your hair and skin.

How about some lucious beauty? As in that obtained from using food? Not IN you, but ON you! Your local grocery store is the only place you'll need to go and you can pick up these items along with your regular groceries. You may even have all of them on hand right now.

  • Mayonnaise
  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Baking soda
  • White Vinegar

Hair: Mayonnnaise makes as good a deep conditioning agent as any of the high priced oils. You use it the same way as some: Apply it lavishly to the ends of your hair, then to the roots if needed. Wrap it all up in a hot towel and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Shampoo as usual. No, you won't smell like mayonnaise; yes, your hair will be smooth and beautiful.

If you want silky hair, all you have to do is rinse with white or apple cider vinegar. White if your hair is blonde, gray or white and apple cider for everything else. Whichever one you use, put about 2 ounces to a cup of warm water and pour over your head after a shampoo. The smell will dissipate in about a quarter of an hour, but you can rinse it off in a couple of minutes if you wish.

For a quick, smoothing shine that helps control your hair, apply coconut oil to either damp or dry hair. A little bit will do you! A piece about the size of a pea, melted in the palm of your hand is enough for even long hair. Be careful to use a light touch and distribute it as evenly as possible.

Face: The best facial scrub you'll ever have comes from that familiar yellow box. Put a little olive oil in the palm of your hand and add a half teaspoon or so of baking soda. Mix it all up into a cream and apply in a circular motion to your face. Go over your face a couple or three times, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.

For a clarifying face mask, separate the yolk and white from one egg. Break the yolk and beat it briefly with a fork, then use your fingers to wash your face with it. Wash thoroughly and rinse well. Beat the white until it's frothy, then apply evenly over your face as a mask. Wait about 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

Feet: Start with about a half cup of white vinegar in a half gallon of water as hot as you can stand it. Soak your feet at least 10 minutes. Dry them with a rough towel and see calluses begin to rub off and the skin of your feet become soft and smooth. You can repeat as often as you want as it has a cumulative effect.

For really rough and dry feet, rub coconut oil into them after each shower and at night before going to bed. You can put cotton socks on before going to bed. Coconut oil washes out of clothing in warm water.

Body: Coconut oil makes an excellent after shower body lotion. Put it on while your skin is still wet. When you use a towel to dry off, excess oil will be removed, too, and your skin will feel smooth and silky. Bonus? You'll smell good!
