How to Reduce Pesky Under Eye Circles

Sleepy? Tired? Exhausted? Maybe you pulled an all nighter?

Well, you're not feeling great, but you look even worse with those puffy bags underneath your eyes. Here are a few easy tips to minimize the appearance of those under black circles.

  • Put a cool compress over your eyes. This can be just about anything; a cool, wet wash cloth, ice cubes in a bag, wrapped up in a face towel, or you can even purchase a sleeping mask filled with gel that is kept in the refrigerator expressly for this purpose. I also have kept spoons in my refrigerator, and pressed them over my eyes for a few moments. This seems to work.
  • Use certain food items over your eyes. Cucumber slices are the stereotypical item, but they do work. The antioxidants in cool green tea bags are also known to help reduce the puffiness and discoloration. I have heard that the starch and coolness from a cut potato also tighten the skin, reduce puffiness and discoloration, but I have never tried this.
  • Moisturize. The action of rubbing a moisturizer into your skin will make it puff out, but in a healthier way. Make sure to moisturize around your eyes regularly.
  • Drink lots of water. Avoid alcohol and coffee.
  • Apply a concealer. Make sure to blend it in on your upper lids, as well as under your eyes. Be sure to choose the appropriate tone and shade for skin or you may end up looking worse for the wear.
  • Smile plenty. As tired as you can look, a energized smile will brighten up your whole face. Just be sure to really mean it - or at least look like you do. A half-mast smile will only leave you looking more tired.

The best tip to reducing under eye circles is obvious, and somewhat annoying, but true - get plenty of sleep!
